At the Seaside
By Lynn Pilgrim
The first time I visited Ericeira, Portugal, I deeply felt surrounded by Portugal’s seafaring history. It had not been discovered by surfers yet but still had a quiet, chill atmosphere and the aura of the beach.
We wandered the narrow streets and marveled at how those streets had been traversed by sailors, fishermen, and their waiting wives for centuries. The cheerful vendors, ever happy to see tourists, sold some quality crafts depicting the sea.
Of course, I will never forget the smell of sea air of that place. The salty aroma, the relaxed streets, and historic architecture come together beautifully with its Portuguese “feel”. The best part of that visit, however, was the warmth and congeniality of our Portuguese friend, who graciously introduced us to the sights!
